a digital zine
by pluto22

just in time for spring!
Oneironautics (/əneɪroʊˈnɔːtɪks/) refers to the ability to travel within a dream on a conscious basis. Such a traveler in a dream may be called an oneironaut.

i've been really into lucid dreaming lately. i wrote a little blog post about it.

anyway, the oneironauts at pluto22 are ready to deliver a fresh batch of objects on the second issue of /kbos.

what's this?

/kbos is a digital zine by pluto22. it's basically just a collection of things i like and want to share. you can read the first issue here!

disclaimer, again: the things i recommend may include graphic and/or explicit content. it's just stuff i like, so anything goes.

what's new?

along with some media features, this issue contains more website spotlights, challenges, and a bit of my own writing. i hope it's as fun to peruse as it was to make!

what's next?

i'll be working on the next issue of /kbos over the next few weeks. i may decide to set up polls, ask questions, or give prompts on my site to include for next time. idk yet!

got any comments, questions, input? is there a broken link anywhere?
leave a message in my guestbook!

are you up for a challenge?

it's time to try something new and get out of your comfort zone. i've crafted 4 prompts for you to choose from- small suggestions of activities to spark some creativity within you and help you focus on the little things. once you complete a challenge, come back to this page and tell me about your experience to have it featured on the next issue of /kbos!

1. buy a fruit you've never tried before.
maybe something exotic, and preferably in season. buy the fruit in its raw, natural form- not as a juice flavor or jam. figure out how to cut it, peel it, prepare it. you might just experience an incredible new flavor and discover your new favorite snack.

2. write a physical letter to a friend. mail it or deliver it to them.
either buy or craft an envelope and write at least a two page letter to a friend. write and deliver it without telling them. let it be a surprise that you've put in the effort to contact them out of the blue. if physically delivering the letter is completely impossible, you may opt for an e-mail instead- but only as a last resort.

3. swap something with someone.
offer to lend someone something of yours and ask to borrow something in return. it may be a book, a cd, a clothing item, a game, whatever. bonus points if it's someone you're just getting to know and want to befriend. it's an exercise in vulnerability and trust- you're offering them an experience you believe would enrich their life and are asking for one in return.

4. go somewhere new- without your phone.
plan your route at home. write down the directions, maybe draw a map. try to get there using a different method of transportation than usual. have you ever taken the bus? is it close enough for you to walk there? challenge yourself to leave your home and not use your phone at all during your outing. you may choose to keep it on you for security, but don't use it as a crutch or for navigation. if you want to listen to music with it, plan a playlist beforehand and limit any time spent skipping songs. if you have a music player opt for that instead. maybe bring a book, or a pencil and pad to write things down.
which challenge will you pledge to take?

there was a time in my life when i would've considered all of these incredibly anxiety inducing (yes, even the fruit one!)

nowadays i feel like i can't forgive myself if i don't keep trying new things, keep pushing myself, keep being uncomfortable, and keep potentially humiliating myself. i need to know i was willing to put in the effort to make my life beautiful and exciting.

SONG

Is it dirty
does it look dirty
that's what you think of in the city

does it just seem dirty
that's what you think of in the city
you don't refuse to breathe do you

someone comes along with a very bad character
he seems attractive. is he really. yes. very
he's attractive as his character is bad. is it. yes

that's what you think of in the city
run your finger along your no-moss mind
that's not a thought that's soot

and you take a lot of dirt off someone
is the character less bad. no. it im
y roves constantly
you don't refuse to breathe do you

this is water

Of course, none of this is likely, but it's also not impossible - it just depends what you want to consider.

If you-re automatically sure that you know what reality is and who and what is really important - if you want to operate on your default setting - then you, like me, probably will not consider possibilities that aren't pointless and annoying.

But if you've really learned how to think, how to pay attention, then you will know you have other options.

It will actually be within your power to experience a crowded, hot, slow, consumer-hell-type situation as not only meaningful, but sacred, on fire with the same force that lit the stars - compassion, love, the subsurface unity of all things.

ZORK

The iconic 1977 text based game.

Adventure, Exploration, Fantasy

There's not much to the mechanics.
You are given prompts and type your commands to play.

>i've never actually beaten ZORK
There's just so much to do.
And so many ways to get lost.

>there are plenty of guides and walkthroughs online

>i come back to it every now and then and usually get lost for a few hours.

>i particularly enjoy taking out a pen and paper to draw a map as i play
Seriously. It's very easy to get lost.

There are tons of text based games out there nowadays, but I haven't explored those yet. I'm still lost in ZORK.

melon journey play here

before there were bittersweet memories, there was just... melon journey! an incredibly sweet and whimsical experience. i first played this in high school and despite it only taking around 30 minutes to complete it left a big impact on me. you play as someone in search of their friend and help the people of hog town with their troubles along the way. i adore this game. in 2020 the original rpg maker 2003 game got a limited run gameboy cartridge release! (i want one so bad.)

subject: positivity

i wouldn't consider myself a positive person. far from it.

i get comments sometimes that my site is positive or uplifting and i can't pretend i don't see why.
i like to focus on the little things. i like to look for beauty in everyday moments because i'm desperate to find ways to enjoy being alive. still, "spreading positivity" isn't exactly what i'm setting out to do.

at the risk of sounding like a major sourpuss, i've always felt that life was a curse bestowed upon me. bad luck, troubled childhood, endless mental health struggles and no end in sight. i never asked for this.

the thing is, life is beautiful. it's unbelievably fucked up and harrowing, but it's beautiful.

i don't need to thank the universe for putting together the specific set of atoms that made me this person, but i can't resent it either. the fact is i am here whether i like it or not. and now that i'm here i can't simply ignore the fact that life is incomprehensibly and overwhelmingly beautiful. i don't necessarily think it's positive to acknowledge that. it's just a fact.

i don't have any major plans, career goals, or things i want to achieve before i die. i just want to take it all in, as much of it as i can. i want to see lots of things and do lots of things and feel lots and lots of things.

someday i'd like to see the northern lights. currently i like noticing little flowers growing in the sidewalk.

that's all i really wanted to say. thank you for checking out this zine, and if you've read this far, thanks for hearing me out.
